Book Club at Resurrection Lutheran Church
Do you love reading books? Do you love reading books with a group of people? Are you looking for people to discuss literature with? Many love to read books, but it can be hard to find someone to discuss the book with after you’re done reading it. If you are interested in meeting other people to discuss the books you read, you should consider joining the book club at Resurrection. Here you will find great opportunities to meet new people and make new friends.
Membership
Membership is open to all who love reading books and making time to share their understanding with others. The book club at Resurrection Lutheran Church consists of a number of great minds who read and talk about books based on a topic or an agreed-upon reading list. We choose a specific book to read and discuss each month. The club is focused on reading books that enrich the hearts and lives of its members.

Past Books
Our April meeting will be held on April 11. Sharon Groh will be the discussion leader. Her book choice is O Pioneers ! by Willa Cather. It is available at the library.
Summary: “O Pioneers!” introduces us to the Bergsons, a family of Swedish-American immigrants who live in the fictional farm town of Hanover, Nebraska at the beginning of the 20th century. The story centers on the life of Alexandra Bergson, who inherits the family farm with her mother and three brothers when her father dies. Many years of crop failures force the Bergson’s neighbors to give up and sell their farms, something that Alexandra’s brothers Oscar and Lou wish to do but which Alexandra and her mother are unwilling to do. Instead Alexandra convinces the family to mortgage their homestead in order to buy up the surrounding acreage. Amidst the backdrop of managing the farm there develops two romantic relationships in the novel, one between Alexandra and her childhood friend Carl Linstrum, who returns after many years away, and another between Alexandra’s youngest brother, Emil, and the unhappily married Marie Shabata. “O Pioneers!” is a classic portrayal of the struggles of immigrants in the great plains of America, a story of success in the face of hardship, and the growth of a young woman along the way.

Karen Woods volunteered to be our leader for meeting on May 9th. Her book of choice is All the Broken Places by John Boyne. The book is available at the library.
Summary: All The Broken Places moves back and forth in time between Gretel’s girlhood in Germany to present-day London as a woman whose life has been haunted by the past. Now, Gretel faces a similar crossroads to one she encountered long ago. Back then, she denied her own complicity, but now, faced with a chance to interrogate her guilt, grief and remorse, she can choose to save a young boy. If she does, she will be forced to reveal the secrets she has spent a lifetime protecting. This time, she can make a different choice than before—whatever the cost to herself….
